John Blackwell wasn't as patient. In his effort to create a circle of pure Balcoin blood, he impregnated two women from each of the three circles. He would disappear shortly after the children were born, taking his two issue with him. He started in Harpswell, Maine. His first was a daugther, and a year after, a son. While biding his time, he sowed the seeds of discord within the circle, leading it to collapse on itself. He moved on to Stonington, Connecticut. Here he had two sons, and again, they were a year apart. This circle was harder to undo--the members bonds were tight, and his lingering caused more suspicion than strife. He approached the last circle with a better plan, with a built-in escape method. This time his children, two daughters, were born mere weeks after each other. The witch hunters gave him an easy out, an easy plan for destruction. After the boatyard fire, he disappeared from Chance Harbor, taking both Cassie and Diana with him.
Six children was far too much for John to handle on his own. Luckily, he'd found a like-minded witch from a distant branch of the Balcoin family tree. Not pure blood, but each that he could find some measure of trust in her. She was Mom, he was Dad. They lived under the Blackwell name in Crowhaven, Maryland. His plan was set. But it was nearly destroyed by a vampire. The Originals were no fans of witches, but Elijah wasn't one to rush into things. He saw the potential in an alliance with Blackwell, with having a circle of witches on his side. An agreement was struck -- he would leave them in peace until he may have need of them. With Klaus's single-minded pursuit of breaking the curse the Original witch put on him, Elijah knew he may have need.
The elders in Chance Harbor weren't going to sit idly by, though. They stripped their children of power, but left their grandchildren's talents in tact. They knew it would be necessary when the time came, when the Blackwell circle rose. When they were old enough, Faye, Adam, Melissa, Nick, and Jake were told of their abilities and taught by the elders. There was still hope for Cassie and Diana; they may have been Blackwells, but they were also Blake and xxxxx too. They kept searching, looking for inroads to make contact with the girls.
There's brief contact, and it's Kate and Jane who are usually successful. They aren't looking to spook the girls, but merely plant seeds of doubt: copies of their real birth certificates, pictures of their real mothers. Subtle information. It's taken hold in Diana, making her question everything she knows about her 'family.' There isn't much time for her to do anything, though. Elijah has called on the Blackwells to come to Mystic Falls. With Esther's awakening, he isn't all that likely to trust his mother. As the Mikaelsons prepare to make their formal debut to the town, the Blackwells are moving in, making the ball their first appearance as well.
The stakes are climbing. The circles are moving to take back their power. And Mystic Falls is at the center of it.
